Kay McKenzie
I am a fully qualified Counsellor with 20+ years experience of providing both long and short term therapy, both in private practice as well as in a variety of organisations.
I work with people from a diverse variety of backgrounds, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.
My training is in Integrative Counselling enabling me to utilise elements of each of the three main approaches – psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural to create a therapy to suit each client’s individual needs.
It is my belief that the benefits of counselling are firmly based in the therapeutic relationship created between myself and my clients. I provide a secure, supportive and encouraging environment in which this develops. We embark upon therapeutic exploration jointly, in cooperation with one another. My aim is to help client’s to gain an understanding of their experience and to help them to bring about change where they feel it would be of benefit.. Most importantly, I will provide non-judgemental support and facilitate a client’s personal development and growth.
I am also a qualified practitioner in Root Source Therapy which is a healing modality designed to reveal the original root of trauma and the self-limiting beliefs that form at the time which remain out of consciousness yet, may impact upon our lives in the present. This method uses guided visualisation to connect with, and address these beliefs that may constrict our development. These sessions last 1.5 hours and are charged at £80.
I work with children and young people to help them manage difficult emotions and challenging situations using creative methods and have a current DBS Certificate.

My Experience
My experience has been wide ranging in both private practice and within organisations such as a GP Practice where issues such as chronic illness, general anxiety, depression, health diagnoses, substance misuse,
bereavement, depression and phobias were among those presented.
My training has included counselling for those struggling with alcohol related issues within an advisory service and, co-facilitation of Anxiety Management Groups within a Mental Health Centre setting.
I have provided care to terminally ill patients, where I gained invaluable insight into those coming to terms with approaching the end of their lives, and of families facing the loss of their loved ones.


I am a Member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists. I
adhere to their ethical principles. All client information is stored anonymously and securely. I attend regular private Supervision.

Charges
Assessment & Counselling sessions are charged at £60 each and sessions last for 50 minutes.
